Cambridge Police honored with First Responder of the Year award for saving life of Sergeant from Belmont
When Cambridge Police Sergeant George Donovan of Belmont collapsed in cardiac arrest at a police training event in Devens last month, his Cambridge Police colleagues leapt to his aid, starting CPR and using a Semi-Automatic External Defibrillator to revive and stabilize him.
This month, the Cambridge Police Department was awarded First Responder of the Year for its officers’ fast action.
Donovan is now recovering after cardiac bypass surgery.
The department was honored at the Metropolitan Boston EMS Council annual awards ceremony for Region IV, according to a press release. The awards recognize the accomplishments of emergency medical services providers within 62 cities and towns in the Metropolitan Boston area.
