Burlington Mall, a Simon mall located in Burlington, MA, has partnered with Lahey Clinic to launch an innovative, new Mall Walkers Program to promote health and wellness on Tuesday, September 18th at 8:00 am.
The community is invited to lace up their walking shoes and join Lahey’s staff, Burlington’s town officials, Burlington Mall Management and fellow striders to kick off the Mall Walkers Program on September 18. Walkers will enjoy a welcome speech, free breakfast, a complimentary pedometer and water bottle and the camaraderie of other walkers.
“We’re excited to be involved in this unique community partnership with Burlington Mall for the launch of this innovative Mall Walkers program,” said Howard Grant, JD, MD, president and chief executive officer of Lahey Health System and Lahey Clinic. “This type of organized walking program has a direct and sustained impact on the communities we are privileged to serve – particularly in the areas of chronic disease management where regular exercise is so important. We hope individuals, families and seniors from the community will join us in making this program a success.”
The Mall Walkers Program will be held every other Tuesday morning at 8:00 am beginning September 18 for one year at Burlington Mall and will provide a safe and community-oriented environment for year-round walking. Signage in the mall will provide walkers with information on routes so they can track the distance they travel. Studies have shown that regular exercise, such as walking, is an important component for effective chronic disease management – chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes are the leading cause of death in America.
“We are thrilled to take part in an event series that promotes health and fitness in a safe and climate-controlled venue for seniors and local community members,” said Linnea Kelliher, Director of Mall Marketing.
A ribbon cutting presentation will kick off the ceremonial walk around the mall on Tuesday, September 18.
