WGBH Radio show host Callie Crossley will give the keynote address in Brookline’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration Monday.
The free event, entitled “Keeping the Promise” will be at 4 p.m. in the Coolidge Corner Theatre at 290 Harvard St. and will also feature performances by the Workmen’s Circle Chorus, Estelle Katz, The Winiker Band, and the Baker School Jazz Band.
Brookline High School faculty member Malcolm Cawthorne will serve as the master of ceremonies and readings will be made by local students and teachers.
Crossley hosts her live daily call in show on 89.7 and is a regular contributor on National Public Radio’s “The Takeaway,” WGBH-TV’s “Beat the Press” and is a frequent guest on CNN’s “Reliable Sources” and the PBS “News Hour.”
“The Town is proud to be sponsoring this special event in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day,” said Selectman Jesse Mermell, the chair of the Martin Luther King, Jr.
Celebration Committee, in a press release. “As a community, we are committed to advancing Dr. King’s goals and values year-round, but it is appropriate to take time on this special day to reflect on his promise and examine where we have been, where we are, and where we hope to go.”
