Police are stepping up bicycle education and enforcement efforts in Brookline this month.
Brookline Police Lt. Philip Harrington said police have made 448 bicycle stops in July and issued verbal and written warnings as well as 22 citations for traffic violations.
Harrington said police have been stopping bicyclists for various violations, including blowing through red lights and talking illegal left turns in Coolidge Corner.
Boston has also stepped up efforts this month to educate cyclists and motorists about bicycle safety in preparation for the launch of the Hubway regional bicycle sharing program launching later this month.
Brookline officials are in discussions to join Hubway in the spring of next year.
