A New York woman was arrested on Thursday after allegedly trying to pay for goods at the South Shore Plaza with counterfeit money.
According to police, store employees at Eddie Bauer called police when the suspect and her unnamed male companion attempted to make a purchase with two $100 bills.
The bills were determined to be counterfeit and the sale was declined, police said.
When police arrived, store employees pointed out the woman and she was detained. Police found the two counterfeit bills in the woman’s possession. The male suspect was not located, police said.
According to police, the woman and her friend had also been to the Chilrden’s Place. Employees there said the man had successfully paid for clothing with two more counterfeit $100 bills.
At Eddie Bauer, the man attempted to pass fake money off there as well.
Michele Sergeant, 30, of Rosedale, N.Y., was arrested and charged with possessing and passing counterfeit money and attempting to commit a crime.
At the police station, two additional counterfeit $100 bills were discovered when the suspect attempted to destroy them.
