The Braintree Pop Warner cheerleading team won the national championship in its division at a competition at the ESPN Wlde World of Sports complex in Florida.
"The girls were amazing,'' organizer Julie Canelli said in an email from Florida. "They competed in a midget medium PW 2 division. They competed against 11 teams and won first place. They also received award for best choreography at the competition. They are the first Pop warner team in Braintree history to make It to nationals. They have worked incredibly hard to make it where they are today and we are all so proud of them.''
The Braintree girls scored 89.98-percent, edging out a team from Blackstone Valley, according to scores posted on the competition website.
The group of 19 13- and 14-year-old girls had to place in three different competitions in order to win the trip to the Wide World of Sports complex in Lake Buena Vista, where they competed against the best in the country.
