Most Simon Malls across the state will kick off Black Friday shopping this year at 12:30 a.m., hours earlier than past years, the malls announced Tuesday.
Simon said nearly all of its shopping venues in Massachusetts will be following the new, early bird hours. They include the Burlington Mall, the South Shore Plaza in Braintree, the Northshore Mall in Peabody, the Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers, the Arsenal Mall in Watertown, and Solomon Pond Mall in Marlborough.
The exceptions are the Mall at Chestnut Hill and the Copley Place Mall, which will both open later, at 9 a.m.
The 12:30 a.m. start follows several years in which Simon and other mall owners in Massachusetts have steadily rolled back the start of Black Friday as the kickoff to the holiday shopping season has grown in importance to retailers. Last year Simon opened its malls at 4 a.m.
Shoppers who opt to kick off their Black Friday shopping in the midnight hour will be welcomed by “greeters” armed with info on the latest deals and “rejuvenation stations” offering a place to take a break, check your email and enjoy some refreshments, according to a press statement from Regan Communications, Simon’s local public relations firm.
The other Simon malls in Massachusetts that are opening earlier include Square One Mall in Saugus, Auburn Mall, Cape Cod Mall, and Emerald Square Mall
in Attleboro. All Simon malls in New Hampshire will open at midnight.
