Beverly Mayor Bill Scanlon will take residents on his last bike ride as leader of the city, in his 2nd annual Mayor's Ride, which highlights Beverly's downtown, parks and beaches.
Just one year after the tradition was started, Scanlon announced that this will be his last term in office after serving for almost 18 years.
The event, which aims to encourage a more bike-friendly city, will start at 2 p.m. in front of City Hall. Scanlon, along with the Bicycle Beverly Committee, will lead cyclists to the Hospital Point Lighthouse and back.
After the ride, participants can indulge in celebratory Hoodsie ice cream cups, while the mayor says a few words.
Donations for the River House in Beverly, an organization that helps homeless men and women get back on their feet, will be accepted at the ride.
