The Beverly Farmers market opens for the season today at Veterans Park on Rantoul Street and Railroad Avenue.
A number of food items will be for sale from a number of local farms and bakeries, including a variety of fresh vegetables, baked goods, grass-fed beef, farm cheeses and honey. Other wares include massage, Reiki therapy, soap, books and dog treats. This year's market will also feature live music.
One of the new features this year at the market will be the Beverly Compost Initiative. Beverly residents are encouraged to bring their vegetarian kitchen scraps to the market or free composting services. Composting containers will be provided today at the market.
Large canteens of water will also be available to refill shopper's water bottles.
Organizers said the market aims to support local agriculture, increase the availability of affordable, healthy food to members of the Beverly community, promote sustainable living practices, and foster community development.
The Beverly Farmers' Market will run on Mondays from 3:30 to 6:45 p.m. until October 3, except for holidays.
