The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority will hold a public meeting tonight to present the design progress of the planned Beverly Depot garage on Rantoul Street.
The project will mark phase one of a "transit oriented development project," according to an announcement from the MBTA.
A slide show presented at a December meeting on the topic described the ultimate goal of the project to be a "compact, walkable development around transit stations."
Officials are designing the 500-vehicle parking garage, which is planned for construction on MBTA property, as an energy efficient structure that will connect to the Beverly Depot station, the MBTA announcement said.
The garage is expected to significantly reduce the number of commuters parking on-street, the slide show said.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at Beverly City Hall tonight from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
