Belmont students rank among top on MCAS

Belmont 10th graders were among the highest scoring students in math and science in the Boston suburban area on last school year's state standardized tests, according to MCAS school scores released today. (See individual district results)

About 57 percent of Belmont students scored advanced in science on the MCAS, ranking it as the third top district in the state for percent of advanced students. Chatham had the highest percentage of 10th graders with advanced scores, followed by Acton-Boxborough with 58 percent.

About 82 percent of 10th graders scored in the advanced category on math, ranking it as the eighth top in the state. Acton-Boxborough, Harvard and Medfield each had 88 percent of their 10th graders scoring advanced.

A student's scores qualify as advanced if he or she ranked in top quartile for the entire state.

Boston Preparatory Charter Public - 85 percent
Groton-Dunstable - 85 percent
MATCH Charter Public School - 84 percent

Belmont - 82 percent
