A Dutch clothing brand is opening its first American store in Boston and plans to bring new life to a Newbury Street building.
Scotch & Soda, an Amsterdam-based fashion brand that sells clothing store for men, women, and children, is working to open a 2-story retail store in the Newbury Street building that formerly housed local ice cream shop J.P. Licks.
The building, at 352 Newbury St, is near the Hynes Convention Center T station. Its first floor was home to J.P. Licks for 20 years before the business lost its lease in March.
The space will be rehabilitated and renovated for the new clothing store, Donald W. Wiest, the project’s attorney, told the Zoning Board of Appeal Tuesday.
The board’s approval was the project’s last hurdle and now work can begin to open the store, Wiest said.
Scotch & Soda is one of many clothing stores opening on Newbury Street offering fashionable, fitted clothing for men, the Globe reported in May.
