The Otherside Cafe poured its final beer this weekend before closing its doors for good Saturday night.
With “Game Over” painted in red on its outside wall, the vegetarian-friendly cafe and beer bar closed Saturday as it drained its taps and patrons said good bye to the Back Bay staple on the corner of Newbury Street and Massachusetts Avenue.
“Come get drunk with us for the last night at the Otherside Cafe!!!!!!!!!!,” the restaurant’s Facebook status read as it prepared to close.
The eatery has almost closed twice in the last few months only to receive a reprieve as other businesses on its block, including Island Hopper and mattress retailer Sleeparama closed.
The Globe reported in November that the furniture chain Room & Board was looking to open its first Massachusetts store in the cafe's prominent corner building.
Despite the warnings that the cafe was headed to its last day, patrons were still sad to see a favorite watering hole and many took to Twitter to bid farewell:
“Aaaahhh my beloved Otherside... Final beers. #endlessSadness @ TheOtherside Cafe,” @HeySgay tweeted Saturday.
“A #Boston tradegy: The Otherside Cafe (@othersideboston) closes its doors.” wrote @sdavy.
“"welcome to disappointment land!" we will miss u #theothersidecafe. Get ya #beers whil @ The Otherside Cafe” tweeted @kthom917.
And @erikep wrote “RIP thanks for the memories, smoothies, and beers @ The OthersideCafe” on Sunday with a photograph of a sign on the restaurant’s patio that read “Closed 4-Ever :(“
