Owners of bicycle-friendly businesses have a chance to be recognized for their efforts to boost biking in the city’s annual Bike Friendly Business awards.
The award program, now in its fifth year, asks businesses and organizations in Boston to list how they have tried to encourage employees to commute by bicycle or made it easier for customers to bike to the business.
Those efforts could include indoor and outdoor bike racks, commuter incentives, showers, training sessions, a guaranteed ride home in case of an emergency, and a variety of other programs or changes.
Businesses can fill out a checklist application online and will be recognized as a bronze, silver, or gold business at a ceremony in April.
Over 40 business and organizations, ranging from colleges and hospitals to Harpoon Brewery and Gillette were recognized for their biking efforts last year, and for the past two years Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center has been named the Most Bike Friendly Business, an award given to the non-bike business with the most bike-friendly practices.
Businesses and organizations have until March 16 to submit their application.
