WOBURN – The Middlesex District Attorney's Office is conducting an investigation into the facts and circumstances surrounding a fatal police-involved shooting that occurred this morning at approximately 10:45 a.m. at 13 Metropolitan Avenue in Ashland, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Ashland Police Chief Stephen Doherty informed the public today.
According to authorities, at approximately 10:45 a.m. this morning, an Ashland officer observed Andrew Stigliano, 27, an individual he knew to have outstanding warrants. As the officer attempted to arrest him, Stigliano fled into the residence at 13 Metropolitan Avenue and armed himself with a shotgun. When officers again attempted to arrest him inside the house, Stigliano confronted the officers with the shotgun and an officer discharged his weapon. Stigliano was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The circumstances of the shooting incident remain under investigation. The justifiability of the police-involved shooting will be investigated by the District Attorney’s Office, per protocol. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
