Arlington Police are attempting to identify the body of an adult man found dead in Spy Pond today just before 3 p.m.
Police don’t know how long the man, who appears to be white, had been in the water and they don’t yet know the cause of death or the man’s age, said Arlington Police Captain Richard Flynn.
An employee from the nearby Elks Lodge on Spy Pond Lane first reported that he thought he saw a body in the water just before 3 p.m. Flynn said police responded and once a Massachusetts State Police crime scene unit arrived they pulled the body from the water.
Flynn said he couldn’t see any obvious signs of trauma, but he said that determination will be left up to the state Medical Examiner. He said the body appeared as if it could have been in the water for a while.
The pond, near Route 2, is a popular exercise and recreation spot in Arlington, but Flynn said the location where the body was found was not a spot where people walk. Flynn said Arlington Police are working with state police on the investigation.
“We should know more in a few days,” Flynn said.
