NStar plans to make improvements to its infrastructure in a section of Allston that lost power for several hours last week.
Officials at the utility say the work will involve a planned outage that, weather permitting, is set to start at 1 a.m. Saturday and continue for up to 12 hours, impacting about 350 customers in the area of Brighton and Harvard avenues, according to company spokesman Michael Durand.
On Thursday, NStar plans to give advanced notice by calling customers who will be affected by the planned outage.
The work is being done in response to a nearly six-hour long outage last Friday afternoon and evening that affected about 350 customers, he said.
Durand said that outage was due to a “cable failure.”
The outage happened near a part of the neighborhood that has been hit with repeated and at times lengthy outages in the past, which prompted NStar to make what it said were significant and long-term focused upgrades to equipment in the area this past summer.
But Durand said this week that Friday’s outage did not affect any of the same customers who have been hit with the recurring outages in recent years.
He said the company will install two new electrical switches this weekend, which will upgrade existing equipment and will give NStar more flexibility to reroute power if there is another outage.
The spokesman also said that an outage on Monday that affected customers along Commonwealth Avenue about two miles away from the area of Harvard and Brighton avenues was due to a “cable failure” and was unrelated to the other outages and work in Allston.
