The Upper Crust Pizzeria location on Commonwealth Avenue embedded amid Boston University's linear campus is closed.Staff and operations have moved to the local chain's restaurants in Fenway and Coolidge Corner in Brookline, according to the company's Facebook page. The Comm. Ave. restaurant is no longer listed under the store locations page on the pizza chain's website.
A woman who answered at the chain's headquarters office Thursday afternoon said no one was immediately available to provide further information, including about whether the staff and operations relocation is a temporary or permanent move.
A call to the phone number Commonwealth Avenue location automatically rerouted to the Coolidge Corner store. Workers there said they believe the move is final.
A spokeswoman for the company was reached by e-mail Friday afternoon. She did not immediately comment but said she forwarded the inquiry on to the company's owners.
The Facebook page update, reported on previously by the Boston Restaurant Talk blog, says "have a great summer, and hope to see you at Coolidge Corner or Fenway soon."
The update also says for customers to call the Coolidge Corner location at 617-734-4900 or its Fenway store at 617-266-9210 for takeout and delivery orders.
Two other Upper Crust locations -- in Salem and Beverly -- closed a few months ago.
The Upper Crust LLC itself, which runs more than a dozen corporate-owned shops in the Boston area, also has come under scrutiny and investigations by the Labor Department and other state and federal agencies for its employment practices, the Globe has reported. As franchises, the Salem and Beverly restaurants were operated by an individual entrepreneur.
Upper Crust has denied all of the allegations.
The company's founder Jordan Tobins was placed on leave in April after he allegedly used company funds for personal expenses.
