(Boston Redevelopment Authority)The city last night unanimously approved a five-story, home-ownership residential building to replace three deteriorating low-rise commercial and storage buildings along Penniman Road near Union Square in Allston.
The 41,000 square-foot project located across the street from a park will feature 36 condominiums, including six affordable units, 17 parking spots and bike racks in an underground garage, access to 10 surface parking spaces on an adjacent parcel and improved pedestrian access to the site, city officials said.
The $7.2 million project named “Penniman on the Park” is expected to break ground in the spring and will hire an estimated 30 construction workers, according to the Boston Redevelopment Authority.
Revised from plans that had been approved in Oct. 2008, the current project calls for four new setback penthouse units to ease the cost of environmental remediation that developer Rugg Road Realty Trust will be required to complete in order to build on the site, the city said.
