This story was updated July 18 to include information about the business' name change:
A popular member of Allston's nightlife closed Sunday night to begin work on a four- to six-week renovation.
The Joshua Tree sports bar, restaurant and downstairs dance venue on Commonwealth Avenue will change its name to "Barley Hall," according to the Boston Restaurant Talk blog, and it will be updating its interior with a "new concept," said an employee reached by phone at the establishment in early July.
The employee, who asked not to be identified further, said there will be new televisions, a new menu and a new kitchen, but the bar's owner and capacity will not change. The restaurant is currently in the process of hiring a new general manager, he said.
The location between Griggs and Redford streets is scheduled to reopen August 15, though that date -- shortly before area college students return to class for the fall semester -- is tentative and dependent on how the renovation process progresses, the employee said.
City and state land records show the 5,800-square-foot commercial property assessed at $1.9 million -- $1.5 million of which is the building's value -- is owned by Malden-based entity 1314 Commonwealth Ave., LLC.
