Gov. Deval Patrick has chosen attorney Fairlie Dalton for a seat on the Northeast Division of the Housing Court.
After earning a law degree from Harvard Law School, the Melrose resident spent 22 years as an attorney representing low-income tenants in housing court as a lawyer for the housing unit of Neighborhood Legal Services Inc.
She became first assistant clerk-magistrate of the court's Northeast division in 2006.
The vacancy on the court will be created early next year by the coming retirement of Judge David Kerman. The Governor's Council will review Dalton's nomination.
