A 24-year-old Hanson man was charged with attempted murder and kidnapping after an alleged confrontation with a 23-year-old Weymouth woman on the evening of Nov. 26.
According to police, police received a report of a woman screaming outside of a home on Holbrook Avenue in Braintree. When police arrived at the home, they found a man, but could not locate a woman.
The man allegedly gave officers information about the woman that proved to be false, and police started searching for the woman.
A short time later, police said, the woman called from her Weymouth home and said the man police had spoken to had cut her with a knife.
Weymouth and Braintree police, as well as medical personnel, responded to the womenís home, where she told police she knew the suspect but had no dating relationship with him.
The victim said the suspect refused to allow her to leave his apartment, and assaulted her with his hands, a knife, and other weapons, police said.
Police said the woman was ultimately able to run out of the apartment and meet a friend, who drove her home to Weymouth.
Michael Harlan was arrested and charged with attempted murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, kidnapping, and intimidation of a witness. Police said Harlan gave a Hanson address as his residence, but they did not explain his connection to the Braintree apartment.
Detectives later served a search warrant to the suspectís home, and said they found the weapons the woman claimed were used in the assault.
