A proposal for an estimated $22 million project to renovate the Bridge and Bowman elementary schools is among the articles on the warrant for Special Town Meeting next month. The project’s approval would prompt a special election within 90 days on whether to pay for the work by overriding Proposition 2 1/2’s limits on property tax increases. Selectmen have scheduled the Town Meeting for Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in Cary Hall. Paying for the work is expected to require a debt-exclusion override, allowing a temporary increase in property taxes. The special election would likely have a second question asking voters to approve another debt-exclusion override, involving a proposal to replace Estabrook Elementary School, which has been plagued by problems with potentially harmful chemicals known as PCBs. Once the design options are developed next month, the town will be able to estimate the cost of building the replacement school, officials said. - Brock Parker
