A Mexican restaurant behind the 1369 Coffee House was a gambling haven, according to Joseph Laycox in "From the Heart of Cambridge."
"They had dogs, horses, street numbers," he wrote. "There was no Mass. Lottery then. The only resource for gambling, unless you went to a dog or horse track, was the local bookie, and that was a place to be, The Oaks."
