Famous folks from Burlington
Roderick MacKinnon was a co-recipient for the 2003 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Originally from Burlington, Dr. MacKinnon won the prize for his studies of tiny channels in cell membranes, which have contributed to the understanding of fundamental life processes.
He first became interested in science as an undergraduate at Brandeis University. He also graduated from the Tufts School of Medicine and did a residency at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He later did research at Harvard University.
