Town Meeting convenes Monday
The 73-article warrant facing Town Meeting when it convenes Monday at 8 p.m. includes the expansion of off-leash hours for dogs in some town parks and a proposal to shift treasurer from an elected to an appointed job. Special Town Meeting will be held on May 7 to tackle several financial articles for the current fiscal year. Last spring, Town Meeting members required 10 sessions extending into June to finish their deliberations. This year’s off-leash proposal would allow dog owners to let their pets run loose at some locations from 6 p.m. until park closing times; the bylaw approved two years ago allows off-leash play during morning hours. The proposal to consolidate the town's Finance Department would make the treasurer's position an appointment by the town manager, rather than an elected post. The incumbent treasurer, Stephen Gilligan, has opposed the move. Members will also vote on the town's budget for next fiscal year, with the spending plan of roughly $124 millionup about 3 percent from the current budget.
