Boston Globe's Daily Shopping Tip
We smell a Rat

The next time you visit the Hotel Commonwealth, close your eyes and imagine you're at the Rathskeller. The '70s and '80s rock club in Kenmore Square, which was torn down in 2000 to make room for the upscale hotel, hosted notable bands, including the Police, and helped launch groups like the Cars, Willie Alexander, and the Boom Boom Band, and the Neighborhoods. The well-loved Rat lives on in rockers' memories -- and can also live on in your wardrobe. Peter Rinnig sells Rat merchandise such as tees, hats, mugs, and mousepads, all adorned with the Rat logo. Prices: $15 (shirt, hat), $10 (mug, mousepad).
