Nancy Formella, a registered nurse and top administrator at Dartmouth-Hitchcock health system in Lebanon, N.H., will become chief operating officer of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in March.
Formella replaces Marsha Maurer, who has served as an interim since early 2012, when Eric Buehrens departed after an unsuccessful bid to secure the chief executive post. Maurer will return to her prior role overseeing patient services and as chief nursing officer.
Formella has worked at Dartmouth-Hitchcock since 1999, most recently as an executive advisor to the board of trustees. She previously served as president of Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, a 353-bed teaching hospital. She also worked on the creation of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health system, to create partnerships with regional doctors for more coordinated care.
“We had great candidates from all over the country, and it was clear to us that Nancy’s strong proven track record of day-to-day hospital management and robust health system development made her the perfect fit for Beth Israel Deaconess,” Chief Executive Dr. Kevin Tabb said in a hospital press release.
Formella also has worked for CSC Healthcare, a national consulting firm, and for Mayo Health System in Minnesota and Florida.
