These days New Englanders are disposed to look kindly upon the Colorado Rockies, the team and the mountains, both of which have afforded so many people so much pleasure. These offers could help tide fans over till spring training:

Beaver Creek has a Fly In/Ski Free promotion with a free day of skiing for those flying nonstop into Vail/Eagle County Regional Airport, starting Nov. 16. Visitors who present a boarding pass and Beaver Creek lodging confirmation at any ticket window will receive a complimentary same-day lift ticket.

Children ages 2-12 will fly free on United or American Airlines Jan. 6-Feb. 15 into the Eagle County airport with each paid adult 18 years or older.

ResortQuest, which has 3,000 properties in 10 Rocky Mountain ski destinations, will let guests relocate to another ResortQuest ski and snowboard destination if snow conditions do not meet their expectations. Properties are available in Aspen, Snowmass, Breckenridge, Keystone, Steamboat, and Telluride in Colorado; Park City, Deer Valley, and The Canyons in Utah; and Sun Valley in Idaho. Among the properties are homes, condominiums, and suites, at a variety of prices.

Breckenridge is again offering a Ski Free, Stay Free promotion. Skiers and snowboarders who stay and ski or ride for three nights will get a free fourth night of lodging and lift tickets. A guest can save up to 25 percent with packages starting at $301.

At Copper Mountain, skiers and riders who buy lift tickets and three or more nights of lodging starting at $76 per person per night, quad occupancy, will receive a fourth night free and a day of Beeline Lift Tickets. Children 12 and younger ski free.

Crested Butte Mountain Resort offers free skiing through Dec. 15. Skiers or riders who visit a resort ticket office during that time will get free lift tickets with no strings attached. There are also discounted ticket and lodging prices for active and inactive members of the military with a military ID.

The Inn at Wildewood at the Powderhorn Resort in Mesa has a special season-long rate that starts at $89 per night with no blackout periods. Guests will also get half-price lift tickets for each night's stay.

Killington card

In Vermont, a new Killington/Pico Express Card lets skiers and riders save up to $20 per day at both places throughout the season. The card is offered in prepaid six- and 10-day increments at up to 20 percent of regular prices at the window. A photo ID is needed along with the card; the value of any unused days at season's end can be applied to the purchase of next year's card.

The Maine things

Maine's two largest ski and snowboard resorts, Sunday River and Sugarloaf/USA, are offering a combined season pass. The Maine Pass has three levels: Bronze, for $299, is for all ages and is valid midweek, non-holiday. Silver, for $499, is for all ages and is valid seven days a week with 12 blackout dates on holidays and select Saturdays. Gold, ranging from $399 for seniors to $799 for adults, is valid every day of the season.

Expedia hits the slopes

Expedia has launched the Ski Store, offering vacation deals, information about ski resorts, including such topics as which resorts are ideal for the mid-20s ski bum and which for families, lists of après-ski activities near resorts, information about snowfall, mountain and slope statistics, and current closings, plus ski resort Web cams.


AMC Ageless adventures

In addition to ski-and-stay deals, the Appalachian Mountain Club is also offering new 50+ Adventure Camp snow sports weeks and naturalist-led Lodge-to-Hut overnight adventures, including a new tour geared toward families. The club's New England lodges are in New Hampshire and Maine.

Hey, big spender

For the splurger in you, there is The Mall at Millenia, home in Orlando, Fla., to such luxury retailers as Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Tiffany. The mall has a You've Been Good for Goodness Sake holiday shopping package ( The pricey fun begins with a journey on a private jet to Orlando, followed by check-in for a suite at the Grand Bohemian Hotel, with welcome cocktails, complimentary his and her robes, a luxury gift basket, and a good-night his-and-her massage. Next, guests will be taken by chauffeured stretch limo to the mall, where they will receive a holiday stocking filled with upscale goodies. After a personalized makeover at MAC Cosmetics, guests will meet with a personal shopper at both Gucci and Jimmy Choo. Also included are lunch and a champagne toast at Brio Tuscan Grille. And after the shopping is done, the guests are ushered through the VIP entrance at Blue Martini for complimentary cocktails. The package begins at $13,000 for two.

Beachy keen

Pensacola, with its history, culture, and 32 miles of beaches, has both specials and coupons available at its convention and visitors bureau website. Included are lodging specials, including a stay at the Best Western Blue Angel Inn for $69.95 a night, and $100 off a three-night stay at the Portofino Island Resort & Spa. Prices vary by date and room selection.

SunStream Hotels & Resorts, with six condominium properties in southwest Florida, has discounts throughout fall and winter. Among the specials are 1-3 bedroom suites from $112-$649 per night, with the low end reflecting savings of up to 30 percent. Rates are valid through May 26 based on availability, with some reservations requiring minimum stays.


Naples Grande Beach Resort and Golden Door Spa in Naples, Fla., which opened this year, has elements of Japanese architecture and what it calls Zen-style gardens dedicated to serenity. A five-night Om Suite Om package with a starting rate of $1,395 includes two 50-minute spa treatments and access to a hospitality suite with a dedicated concierge.

Some search engines such as Orbitz and do not include JetBlue in their listings. JetBlue's flights to Orlando can sometimes cost less and leave at other times, so it may be worth checking and the other sites.

If you prefer beaches even to the sound of sleigh bells, the Sheraton Delfina Santa Monica in Southern California offers a Surf or Turf package highlighted by a night's accommodations in an ocean-view room, a pomegranate mojito on arrival, the choice of a surfing lesson for two or a one-day bike rental for two on Santa Monica Beach, a surf-and-turf dinner for two, and early check-in and late check-out at the hotel. The price is $569 for the package with the surfing lesson or $469 with the bike rental. It is available Nov. 18-Dec. 29.
