Frozen Rush at Sunday River

FrozenRush_sundayriver.jpgFrozen Rush... sounds like whitewater rafting in winter or a fraternity party with blender drinks. But no. Sunday River is hosting Frozen Rush on Friday Jan 10, a first ever Red Bull sponsored snowy truck race on the ski slopes of South Ridge. The crazy course, designed by Sunday River's park crew with collaboration from Red Bull, features a figure-eight track on the ski slopes with gates, jumps and huge snow berms. Eight tricked out 900hp Pro4 trucks will be driven by the world's top drivers like Ricky Johnson and Bryce Menzies. These monster trucks with spiked tires expect to reach speeds of 60mph on the snowy slippery course. The race format is two drivers at a time, head to head on the course maneuvering through gates, first to finish moves on. You can witness the event at Sunday River on Friday Jan 10, 12-2 for free, you can walk from South Ridge base to see the course. If you miss it live, The Red Bull Signature Series event will actually broadcast on NBC at 3pm prior to the Feb. 2 Super Bowl

The Frozen Rush event will be based at South Ridge Lodge and on the slopes just uphill on the Lower Lazy River, Mixing Bowl and Broadway trails. Qualifiers will be held Thursday, finals are Friday, The Pits will be open for viewing, and après ski parties, awards and driver autograph signings are planned. Frozen Rush coincides with College Ski Week at Sunday River, a fun fast diversion or skiing, hot tubing, etc. If you witnessed the huge elements Sunday River and Red Bull created for Simon Dumont's quarter pipe world record jump and ensuing Dumont Cups for the past five years, you have to believe this is going to be huge.
