How to get there

Take Interstate 93 north to Interstate 89 north to exit 17 for the Lake Champlain Islands. Follow Route 2 through South Hero, Grand Isle, and North Hero. As you enter Alburg, turn left on Route 129. Just beyond the Alburg Country Club, cross the causeway on your left and you'll be on Isle La Motte's Main Street.

What to do

On Isle La Motte, visitors can hike, cycle, boat, swim, fish, and engage in other water sports mid-May through mid-October. Of special interest is the Chazy Reef, the oldest coral reef in the world, visible at the Fisk Quarry on West Shore Road. The single biggest tourist attraction is St. Anne's Shrine, also on West Shore Road, at a sandy point where Samuel Champlain first landed. Nearby islands also have golf, antiques shops, bird watching, and hiking trails at Alburg Dunes State Park, Knight Point State Park, and Sand Bar State Park. The famous white Lippizan stallions perform at Lipizzan Park on North Hero in July and August. For general information, visit, or phone the Lake Champlain Chamber of Commerce at 802-372-8400.
