As we neared the top of the Headwall, I took a quick peek behind me. The bottom of the ravine opened up below me, stretching out into the surrounding forests. The red frame of the Hermit Shelter stood out against this green blanket, and I was surprised by how far we had come after just over 90 minutes on the trail. Almost as surprising was a Dutch family with two young children, both well under 10 years old, that passed us on trail, heading down.
