Brahpt: Mainers are thought be curt in their speech. Some Mainers are even named Curt — short for Curtis. Anyway, Mainers believe you should never say a word that cahn't improve on silence. For that reason folks from away sometimes call us brahpt or shawt. If a tourist should ask, "Is this the road to South Hiram?" a typical Mainer would answer with a brahpt or shawt answer, "No" or "Yes" or "Could be." A long-winded or chatty Mainer might answer, "You know, that's a very good question, but the truth is, I have no idea where that road there goes to."
