One of the state's most photographed lighthouses, an image of the "Nubble," nicknamed because it stands on Nubble Island about 100 yards off Cape Neddick Point, has even been sent to space. The Voyager spacecraft, which carries photographs of Earths most prominent features - intended to identify the planet should the spacecraft fall into extraterrestrial hands - includes a photo of the 1879 lighthouse, along with images of the Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal.
