An 8-foot-tall likeness of Big Foot greets visitors at Loren Cole man's home museum. Coleman is a renowned expert in cryptozoology, the study of hidden animals, such as Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, and the Abominable Snowman. He has amassed a collection of such artifacts as skulls and footprint castings, which lend credence to the existence of these rumored beasts, and also kitsch, including movie props and souvenir memorabilia. A collector since 1960 and the author and coauthor of books including ''The Field Guide to Bigfoot, Yeti, and Other Mystery Primates Worldwide'' (Harper Perennial, 1999), ''Mysterious America'' (Paraview, 2007), and ''Lake Monsters, Sea Serpents, and Other Mystery Denizens of the Deep'' (Tarcher, 2003), Coleman, a former university professor, welcomes serious seekers, researchers, and the curious public by appointment for personal tours of the collection, jam-packed into two rooms and a porch. 207-772- 0245, lorencoleman.com/museum.html.
