Loews Hotels turns Twitter into booking tool

loews_boston.jpgThere's no doubt social media has upped the game in customer service. Now, one hotel chain is taking social media to a new level.

USA Today reports that starting Tuesday, Nov. 19, Loews Hotels and Resorts will launch "social reservations," allowing travelers to book rooms at 16 of its 19 properties via Twitter.

Here's the hotel-skinny: If you're on Twitter, follow @Loews_Hotels. Tweet them the hotel you're interested in staying in, using the hashtag #BookLoews. A Loews travel planner will get in touch via Twitter and when you're ready to book, the planner will tweet a link to a secure chat conversation so you can finalize the booking and enter your payment information. The only hotels not included in "social reservations" are the Loews Orlando properties.

Piper Stevens, director of social media for Loews, told USA Today that the idea for social reservations sparked when a traveler asked for a Boston hotel recommendation, and she suggested the Loews Boston hotel (pictured).

"We had initially been seeing a lot of consumer activity to point them in the right direction to how to make a reservation, and we thought we could connect the dots for them and do so through social media," she says.

To get the Twitter party started, Loews is kicking off its new "social reservations" with a special promotion: starting at noon ET, Nov. 19, the first 140 Twitter users to book a reservation through the program will get a discounted rate of $140 a night.
