To kick things off in San Diego, The US GRANT has hosted 13 presidents in its presidential suite, which was originally a radio station. The suite was added onto the rooftop of the hotel in 1939 as a radio station and created a mark in history as the very radio station from which President Franklin D. Roosevelt broadcast his first ‘fireside chat’ outside of DC. Today, the presidential suite includes a six-person dining area with built-in-service bar, executive desk for personal or business communication needs, a separate salon area, and master bed and bath for $3,500/night.
On the other coast, The Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach put the posh back into the presidency with their two-bedroom presidential suite, (which is really two separate suites aptly named the "Commander" and the "Chief" suites and when reserved together form the presidential suite). The oceanfront suite is $6000 per night, and includes two bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms. The presidential pièce de résistance, however, comes in the form of a wall adorned by shoes. Robert Tabor designed the shoes, all of which pay tribute to past First Ladies and other worldly dignitaries. The Hilary Clinton shoe is a blue pin stripe pump, while the Barbara Bush shoe is a classic orthopedic wing, and the Jackie Kennedy shoe is a ‘60’s style square toe, covered in pink wool boucle and a jeweled-trimmed JFK political button on the lapel.
While these two suites certainly live up to their namesakes, hotels around the world have made an art out of luxury living. Check them out:
