fitnesscenter.jpgHow often do you work out when you're traveling? If InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has anything to say about, you'll be keeping up your healthy habits on the road. The hotel group, which is the parent company of InterContinental Hotels, Holiday Inn and Crowne Plaza, announced the development of a new hotel brand aimed at travelers who want to work out and eat healthy on the road.

IHG's new EVEN hotels will be the first dedicated hotel brand to focus solely on health and fitness. The hotel is spending $150 million to get EVEN off the ground and open 100 new hotels in US in first five years. So, what can you expect?

According to IHG, the hotels will be designed around four priority issues -- exercise, eat, work and rest.

  • Guest rooms will be designed for in-room workouts and include multi-functional room amenities such as a coat rack that doubles as a pull up bar.
  • The fitness center will offer state-of-the-art equipment and group exercise activities, as well as a "Wellness Wall” for fitness options in walking distance, tips and equipment rental
  • There will be on-site guest service to offer personalized advice on fitness options, ideas and/or instruction for workouts.
  • The Marketplace will offer nutritionally designed menus with a particular focus on natural, fresh, fit and energizing meals, as well as free coffee and mini-smoothies in the morning.
  • Guest rooms will be equipped with high speed Wi-Fi, multimedia ports, easy access to outlets, ample desk space, and there will be a "social space" in the bar and lobby.
  • All guest rooms will offer hypoallergenic linens, powerful showerheads, natural lighting, LED dimmers and antibacterial wipes.

IHG said it will announce the location of the first EVEN hotel this spring, and plans the first EVEN opening for early 2013. Rumor has it the first hotels under this new health brand will open in big markets like Los Angeles, New York, Boston and Washington D.C.

Readers: What do you think? Would you stay at hotel focused solely on health and wellness?
