LAS VEGAS — For most people, this city triggers thoughts of gambling specifically or misbehaving generally.
But for others, it is the only place they would want to get hitched.
Those seeking a unique setting in which to exchange their vows need look no farther than Denny’s.
Yes, Denny’s, which has opened a flagship restaurant — complete with a wedding chapel — on Fremont Street.
The development in which it is located, Neonopolis, is part of a downtown rebirth of sorts, with recently renovated hotels, new shops, restaurants, a state-of-the-art performing arts center, and tourist attractions, including the Mob Museum, which features exhibits on many of Boston’s most notorious gangsters.
Now Denny’s patrons can combine noshing and nuptials, with a Pancake Puppie wedding cake and a Grand Slamosa cocktail toast.
An Iowa couple — longtime food enthusiasts and fans of the chain — was chosen by Denny’s executives to partake in the chapel’s inaugural wedding earlier this month, and others are lining up to say their I do’s.
“As passionate Denny’s fans for more than 35 years, my husband and I couldn’t think of a more fun and exciting way to tie the knot,” said Nancy Levandowski, 53, director of dining services at Iowa State University. “When we reflected on all of our memories made at Denny’s, we knew that getting married there over a plate of pancakes would be our best memory yet.”
The bride and the groom, Steve Keller, 54, a food service salesman, celebrated with family and friends, and while theirs wasn’t the first wedding in a Denny’s, it was the first in one of the restaurants outfitted with a wedding chapel.
“Our in-house wedding chapel truly combines the authenticity of America’s diner with the eccentricity of Las Vegas,” said Frances Allen, Denny’s chief marketing officer. “We’re extremely excited to finally bring this one-of-a-kind experience to all our guests.”
In addition to the chapel, the newly designed restaurant has a full-service bar and an interactive photo booth where the recently betrothed — and everyday customers — can take pictures with a variety of backgrounds and post them instantly on Facebook.
Weddings at Denny’s can be as simple or as elaborate as the couple would like, with ceremonies at the chapel starting at $95 — which includes Denny’s just-married T-shirts for the lovebirds and the diner’s signature “Pancake Puppies” wedding cake.
