View 7-ton marble columns, breath-taking murals, and the intricate detail of the ornate plaster molding when visiting the Boston Opera House. About 350 light fixtures cast new light on the Opera House. Today the Opera House hosts Broadway musicals, popular and alternative musicians, along with the occasional opera.
The original Opera House was on Huntington Avenue, but hard times fell upon the building between the Great Depression and World War II. It moved to the heart of Bostons theater district, where the B.F. Keith Theater once stood. The new Opera House opened in 2003 with a performance of "The Lion King.''
