Pi, the ratio of a circumference of a circle to its diameter, is in short 3.14. In long, it's been calculated to one trillion digits beyond the decimal point, and is infinite -- and a math geek's delight. National Pi Day is therefore March 14 -- or 3/14 if you will -- and celebrating that with a deal is the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square.
The hotel is offering a flash sale, the day before Pi Day, March 13. The hotel's website will offer 31.4 percent off the best available rates in all room categories, but only from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The rate is available for travel from March 14 to May 11.
It may be worth noting that many notables have stayed at The Charles, including President Bill Clinton and the Dalai Lama. And Ben Affleck, who starred with fellow Bostonian Matt Damon in "Good Will Hunting," in which Damon played a math genius. Which, speaking of mathematical constructs, shores up that whole six degrees of separation thing.
