Kennebunkport is Painting the Town Red this Month

Seeking a little romance? Want to cross-country ski or snowshoe by the sea and without the crowds? Red lights are twinkling throughout Dock Square, in Kennebunkport, which is staking its claim as New England's Most Romantic Town by painting the town red not only with lights, but also with lodging, dining, and shopping specials throughout February.

While many businesses are shuttered for the season, enough shops, restaurants, and accommodations are open to enliven the area. Now add more than four feet of fresh snow, which is covering the 7 miles of seaside trails at nearby Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm, open to the public for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, or winter walking at no fee. Or bring skates to glide across the groomed ice of Kennebunk's downtown Waterhouse Center. You might even bundle up for a sleigh ride from Rocking Horse Stables.

Other possibilities include winter surfing, jewelry-making and mixology classes, readings, gallery touring, brewery touring, karaoke, and of course shopping. For details on participating businesses, read the Book of Love.
