In December, a most unique resort opens in St. Kitts. Belle Mont Farm, a collection of 84 guesthouses and seven farmhouses, with ocean views, set within an organic farm on Mt. Liamuiga. The resort, now accepting reservations for stays starting Dec. 12, is set on the north coast of St. Kitts, and will immerse guests in local culture and heritage, an organic farming community, and farm-to-table culinary experiences at its The Kitchen restaurant and The Mill bar.
The resort is part of Kittitian Hill, a $600-million hospitality and real estate destination, brainchild of Val Kempadoo, a social entrepreneur with Caribbean roots, who said he sees the development as a catalyst for change in the region that will bring lasting benefits to the islanders and economy.
It sounds like it will be a hands-on kind of place, where wooden baskets will be provided to encourage guests to forage from the farmland that surrounds them, including passion fruit, bananas, and pineapples. Fresh fruits will be delivered to guests each morning. Other amenities will include the Irie Fields Golf Course and The Workshop fitness center. Guests can also interact with locals and explore culture through instructional cooking classes and workshops.
Guesthouses will have open verandas and private infinity pools, ocean views and al fresco bathrooms with rain-water showers and freestanding roll-top tubs. Farmhouses have four bedrooms and can sleep eight, and come with a professional kitchen. Rather than have TVs in the guesthouses, tablets in each will have films that can be viewed on pull-down screens via projectors. Refrigerators are stocked with fresh local products and a selection of six wines.
Future phases of Kittitian Hill will be unveiled next year, including a spa, villas, restaurants and shops. Owners will also renovate the nearby Golden Lemon Inn at Dieppe Bay.
Introductory rates at Belle Mont Farm, a member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, start at $800 a night. Guests can get a 25-percent discount when booking more than 60 days in advance. As added incentive to be one of the first guests of the resort, those staying before Jan. 31 have unlimited golf access at Irie Fields.
