For those who are still adhering to their New Year's resolutions to eat more healthily, a recent survey of airline snack food and meals might help minimize the dietary damage caused by boredom and limited options while in the air. DietDetective.com, in conjunction with Dr. Charles Platkin of Hunter College and City University of New York School of Public Health, studied the food offerings on 12 major airlines. Their “Health Score” ratings are based on a number of factors including the health value of the meals and snacks and their calorie levels. Virgin America (best bet: the Protein Meal with hummus, nuts, and tuna) and Air Canada (best bet: Chicken Ramen Noodle Soup) offer the healthiest choices.
