Yachting Magazine has released a readers poll asking them to rank North America's 50 best ports of call, and New England racked up more than a dozen, with places like Nantucket, Mystic, Conn., Portsmouth, N.H., Camden, Maine, New Bedford, Block Island, and Edgartown making the grade. Finishing first and second in the top 10, respectively, were Marblehead and Boothbay, Maine.
The blurb with Marblehead's entry says the port has "some of New England's best fishing available right in its backyard, there are many local fisherman, which benefits Driftwood, The Landing, The Barnacle and other seafood restaurants."
About Boothbay, the blurb advises getting a seat on the roof terrace of Boat House Bistro Tapas Lounge & Restaurant, a name it calls "too long, but the view is fantastic and the food, as the name suggests, is locally influence international cuisine that's top-notch."
