Musicians from the bayous and swamps of Louisiana and Texas aren't going to allow a hurricane to keep them from New England, so the good times roll as scheduled at this weekend's popular Rhythm & Roots Festival in Rhode Island. The Red Stick Ramblers, a lively Cajun group from Eunice, La., (cq) host the three-day fest of Cajun, Zydeco, blues, country blues, and R&B sounds.
Among the performers are Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys, Marcia Ball, Delbert McClinton, Sarah and the Tall Boys, Corey Ledet & His Zydeco Band, Steve Earle. According to promoters, Ninigret Park in Charlestown, R.I., is in tip-top shape for the stages and music and dance tents, and camping.
Sept. 2-4, Ninigret Park, 4890 Old Post Rd (off Rte. 1). 888-855-6940. Friday 5 p.m.-midnight, Saturday-Sunday noon-midnight. At the gate: $35-$60, depending on day, ages 12 and under free with ticketed adult. See www.rhythmandroots.com for full schedule.
