First there was the World’s Unluckiest Traveler contest, created by insurance provider Travel Guard that was held last year and netted Dr. Gary Feldman of California the top $10,000 vacation prize for his tale of woe. Seemed Feldman, on a medical mission in Vietnam, had stepped to the edge of a cliff to answer an urgent, shall we say, call to nature, slipped, fell 30 feet and broke both legs, necessitating surgery to fix with screws and plates.
This year, Travel Guard is running “WUT 2: The Rescue,” and are looking to celebrate the kinder side of travel by asking people to share good deeds they experienced in their travels, such as someone tracking them down to return a missing wallet or a flight attendant going above and beyond the call of duty. The story that wins, as voted by the public (last year, more than 10,000 registered to vote and 4,000 of them voted for Feldman), will net the lucky traveler a $10,000 “Hero’s Vacation.”
