All foodies love a dining experience paired with wines, but let's not forget the myriad craft beers from the region that also deserve a little culinary attention. Shipyard Brewery Company is leading the way with a Hops and Harvest Beer Dinner at The Regatta Banquet and Conference Center in Eliot, Maine.
The night was created for both novice and seasoned beer drinkers, with a carefully planned five-course harvest menu that will be paired with Shipyard's award-winning craft brews. Some of the menu highlights will include fried pumpkin ravioli with a stout maple glaze paired with Shipyard Pumpkinhead ale, and smoked New York sirloin served with a cheddar ale sauce, twice-baked sweet potatoes, sautéed brussels sprouts in garlic and olive oil, paired with Shipyard's Old Thumper. And they are just two of the five courses.
Guests will have plenty of time to mingle and talk with executive chef Charlie Casey in a casual and festive environment. Shipyard's trade brewer, Bruce Elam, will provide an introduction to the beers and answer questions about brewing, tasting, and food pairing.
"This dinner is designed to be a fun, interactive experience,'' Elam explained. "Pairing beer with a menu that is specifically designed to highlight the flavors in our beers - and vice-versa -is a great way to sample different styles. Guests will see first-hand how food and beer pair together to enhance one another.''
The Harvest dinner takes place on Friday, Oct. 29, and the evening begins at 6:30. Tickets are $35 per person and seating is limited. Beer lovers and the beer curious should make reservations by calling 207-351-4623. The night's proceeds will benefit the Maine Cancer Foundation.
