This is one Vermont location that doesn't have to worry about weather when they plan their annual Winter Carnival. Chances are quite good that they'll be buried in the white stuff. Starting at 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, Island Pond's Winter Carnival kicks off with a snow sculpture competition, accompanied by ice skating and ginormous bon fire to keep the footsies warm. The remainder of the weekend includes a children's ice fishing derby, snowshoe trek up Bluff Mountain, sleigh-rides, card board sled racing, broom ball, torchlight parade and more snow-time activities. Look at the local forecast before you go, book some lodging, take the appropriate vehicle, and pack layers and a thermos of hot coffee. For more information take a peek online.
