Perhaps only Nantucket can say that Holiday time is their quiet time. But it is indeed the ideal time to see the island's inner workings and get back to real reasons we celebrate the Holidays.
This weekend, Dec. 5-7, is Nantucket's Christmas Stroll Weekend. Almost 200 decorated trees will light up downtown and beyond, and strolling Victorian carolers and musicians complete the scene. House tours and Santa Claus sightings as well. This annual Stroll is a community holiday celebration started in 1973, as a way to encourage locals to do their holiday shopping on-island, stimulate the local economy and provide an enjoyable social event. Visitors are encouraged to leave their cars behind; most activities are accessible by walking, bicycle, or taxi. Contact the Nantucket Chamber of Commerce for more information.
